Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp Flaxseed
- 350 mL Water
- 1 tsp Xanthan gum
- 1 tsp Glycerin
- 2 tsp Aloe gel (more if your hair likes aloe)
- 1/2 tsp Jojoba oil
- 5 drops essential oil (optional)
- Citric acid to bring pH to 5
- 2 mL Nipaguard SCE (preservative)
Procedure
- Boil flax seed and water together for 6-7 minutes until a goopy thread forms (try not to get it too thick). Strain in a sieve.
- Dissolve xanthan gum in the glycerine to remove lumps. Stir into the strained flaxseed gel – if lumpy use a stick blender.
- Allow to cool a little before adding aloe, jojoba oil, essential oils of choice and your preservative.
- Optional: Test pH and add a little citric acid dissolved in water if needed – look for a pH around 5-6.
- Pour into pump/squeeze bottle.
With the preservative, this gel should keep for 6 months, though discard if it starts to get an odd smell. If you choose not to use a preservative, store in the fridge for up to 5 days, or freeze your unused mixture.
